Statement on the murder of Tyre Nichols

Tyre Nichols and son, Memphis police, Tyre’s mother RowVaughn Wells

In the wake of yet another killing of a Black man at the hands of police in America, LA Tech4Good acknowledges the range of emotions people are feeling and shares in the grief that we still face the malignancies of racism, privilege, and injustice in our society. We believe strongly that our communities should be safe places; places which allows us to not only call out inequities but also create the solutions which address them.

This is why we do what we do: teaching the equitable and ethical use of data to increase awareness, understanding, foster positive conversations, and actionable solutions - contributing to social justice through technology.

As an emerging leader for the equitable and ethical use of data for better decisions, LA Tech4Good works tirelessly to advance diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging across the data landscape. Our mission is to foster social change with equitable and ethical data practices. We believe data can be actively employed to mitigate inequalities and build a more equitable world. As we strive for racial justice, to strike down gender bias, achieve equitable healthcare and more, responsible data is a key tool in our toolboxes.

We do not condone racism or harassment in any form. We pride ourselves on offering an inclusive and culturally responsive environment for our events, workshops, and partner activities to provide robust and culturally appropriate approaches, solutions, and viewpoints from individuals with a myriad of backgrounds and diverse lived experiences. We're progressing, but our work is not done.

LA Tech4Good both encourages and supports honest, thoughtful, and respectful exchange of ideas and perspectives, and we believe this is a time to step up those conversations. During this pivotal moment, let us band together to prioritize racial and social justice.
