Equitable and ethical data practices empower healthcare professionals, medical practitioners, data experts, and leaders in mitigating harm and promoting the eradication of health disparities. Fifteen participants strengthened their skills in this 4-week series that ran March 31 to April 21, 2022.

This program is for (1) healthcare professionals who work with data, (2) technologists who work in the healthcare space and (3) students in emerging healthcare fields.

  • A curated curriculum of the latest resources to teach you the foundational concepts of equity and ethics in data and algorithms as they relate to health equity

  • Four live virtual sessions with your cohort, facilitated by data equity coaches, to enable you to dig into these concepts, apply them to your work right away via hands-on exercises, and get support and feedback from your cohort in a small-group setting

  • A 1:1 meeting with your data equity coach to help you create your customized action plan and navigate any challenges you’re facing

  • Lifetime membership in our Data Equity Community of Practice, which includes continued learning through bimonthly meetings, an awesome professional network, and opportunities to amplify the impact of this work more broadly as we build this movement

When and where

  • 90-minute sessions take place four consecutive Thursdays, 5:30pm Pacific / 8:30pm Eastern

  • Participants should plan to complete one hour of pre-work each week.

  • Sessions are held virtually, and we have an active Slack group for connecting and sharing resources.

Pricing

$250 includes all sessions and materials, and supports our continued work around data justice. We encourage you to finance the course through your employer’s professional development budget if that is available to you. We offer a reduced rate of just $35 for students.

Margaret Larkins-Pettigrew MD, MEd, MPPM, FACOG

Dr. Larkins-Pettigrew is a global health strategist, diversity, equity and inclusion consultant and maternal health equity advocate.

She is Senior Vice President and Chief Clinical Diversity Equity Inclusion Officer, Allegheny Health Network and Highmark, Professor and Author

Ronald Wyatt MD, MHA, IHI Fellow

Dr. Wyatt is an internationally known patient safety expert and health equity champion.

He is Vice-President and Patient Safety Officer for MCIC Vermont, and a Senior Fellow at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI).

Atlanta University Center (AUC) Data Science Initiative works to develop promising practices that diversify the data science workforce and advance data science on topics that impact Black America, leveraging a rich history in social justice.

Under the leadership of Dr. Talitha Washington, they facilitate and coordinate data science-focused research, activities, and programs across for four HBCUs.

Women in Big Data SoCal Chapter’s goal is to strengthen the diversity in the big data field. As part of this initiative, they would like to encourage and attract more female talent to the big data & analytics field and help them connect, engage and grow.

Rachel Whaley

Rachel serves as the data equity program manager for LA Tech4Good. Across her experience with nonprofits, higher ed, and public and private sectors, she believes data can be a force for good when handled responsibly. She holds degrees in public policy and computer science from the University of Chicago.

Dr. Eboni Dotson

Dr. Dotson is a consummate professional with nearly two decades of progressively responsible experience in the healthcare sector. In 2018, Dr. Dotson founded Healthcare Strategic Consultants, LLC, a healthcare management firm.

Eboni is an Adjunct Instructor at Morehouse School of Medicine and Founder of The Hue of Health.
